"There will always be a hole that will never be filled but it doesn’t mean that I feel so empty anymore."
-Karen Kandik: "Finding Home"
I have lived many lives. I should say that I’ve been fortunate to be given many opportunities over the course of my life, and those of you that have known me for a long time probably remember that my life used to revolve around soccer. I grew up playing the game in NC and my extended soccer family is just as tight knit as our community here in Hampton. The reason why this is important is because several months ago one of my old “soccer pals,” John Michael Loke, called me with a MOLLY FUND fund raising idea. Rally the NC boys and play an “alumni” game to benefit the Molly Fund. Fantastic idea!
We have all of the details about the match listed on Molly’s website (www.mollyrowlee.com), just click on the event flier for the complete information, and the game is going to take place on October 16th, in Fayetteville, NC. We are going to party, play a little soccer, and hopefully raise a bunch of money to benefit the Molly Fund. What is unique is that you can actually click on the link below and sponsor a player! We have already risen quite a bit of money through player sponsorships, but if you could see it in your heart to contribute a few dollars in order to sponsor a player then it would be greatly appreciated.
Almost every single one of my old NC soccer pals went on to play college soccer, a lot of us continued playing for “chump change” - back in the day - before the MLS began, and a handful of us got into coaching after our playing days had ended. I have a few ties to US Soccer and the MLS and my good friend, Tony Lepore, has locked down an unbelievable amount of silent auction and raffle items for the Molly Match. Thank you, Tony! We have autographed jerseys and game balls from the 2010 WORLD CUP!!!! We have autographed jerseys from many MLS teams. Thank you, Hack! Nike, Eurosport and Puma have donated items as well. I am humbled and very grateful for the support. A lot of my soccer pals flew to NH last summer in order to attend Molly’s Memorial Paddle-Out and it’s going to be so unreal to be able to re-connect with a lot of my old friends for the Molly Match weekend in October.
If you're living close by Fayetteville, we hope that many of you will join us for the pre and post game festivities as well as swinging by the game to check out the action. The mighty Westover Wolverines Alumni will be taking on the rest of the world in this highly publicized match – bragging rights are on the line - so we hope to see a ton of you folks in Fayetteville in October because it’s going to be so much fun! Hurricane Earl blew past us last night and he left behind a fun day of waves for us to enjoy today. A zillion people are surfing in NH today but there are so many waves to be had that the crowd factor has only been an issue at a few of our choice spots. Of course, those happen to be my "go to" spots but it's been an awesome day, nonetheless.
Our good pals at Gus' Bike Shop in North Hampton started a benefit ride last year with the proceeds going towards the Molly Fund. Please check out the link and join in the fun.
Have a save and wonderful Labor Day weekend.
Throwin' shakas! Buck
