Surf Celebration 2013

The Event

Surfing, Community, and Love defines the Molly Surf Celebration event and this year we’re getting ready to throw down the 4th annual event on August 24th and 25th

Kieran came to me a few weeks ago and asked if he could surf in costume this year. Over the past few years, the kids were not required to surf in a costume but Kieran’s request sparked an idea. This year we’re going to “encourage” the kids to surf in costume but it’s not required. But we will be offering a “BEST COSTUME” trophy for the grommie that goes above and beyond the call of duty and embraces the spirit of what the Molly Surf Celebration is all about and it has everything to do with “FUN” and dressing up because…..Molly did like her costumes!

We are going to run the grom event on Saturday August 24th. We will be set up at 10th street at The Wall. Entry fees are $20 and we’ll have sign-ups beginning at 7:00am. In the spirit of The Molly, every kid will go home with a trophy and we will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for the little groms (1-8yrs) as well as for the full on groms (9 and up). If you’re a little ripper, and we know who you are, then you’ll going to have to step up and surf with the adults on the 25th!  The kids can ride any board they want. They can have their parents pushing them into waves, they can ride their boogie boards, and they can ride their own surfboards as the only requirement is that they have fun and enjoy the day on the beach with their pals.

We are going to run the adult event on Sunday August 25th. Yep, we will continue to have a SUP surf division so please bring your stand up boards if you want to paddle surf, but we decided to switch things up a bit this year and leave the quiver of old, heavy, longboards in the barn. Adults can ride their own boards but it has to be “anything but three.”  Ride your single fin, shred your twinnie, or break out your quad or five-finner and have a go. We would love to see the adults ride their “crazy crafts,” in the true spirit of The Molly, and as tradition dictates adults MUST SURF IN COSUME!  Cowabunga!!

The adult event will run similar to the groms. $20 entry fee, we’ll be set up at 10th Street and sign-ups will begin at 7:00am. We will, again, be offering up a “BEST COSTUME” trophy and Bryan Johnson assures me that he’s coming to defend his title so let’s make sure that we’ll all dressed to impress!  We will offer 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for the men and women’s division but let’s keep in mind that this contest has everything to do with riding some crazy boards and dressing “posh.”

We will also be providing pizza from Bella Rose Pizzeria, on both days, as well as selling raffle tickets as we have a bunch of cool swag to raffle off during the event. The big ticket item is the 6’5 JS, autographed by Mark “OCCY” Occhilupo, and hand painted by our pal and local genius artist Jamie Valhouli.

We hope to see everyone on the beach in a few weeks. Please pray for sunshine and some fun little waves!
