Surf Celebration 2014

The Event

I cannot believe that this is the fifth year that we’re running the Molly Surf Celebration. Time has certainly flown by since we first kicked off this lil’ party back in 2010. It has been an incredible journey, and the overall vibe and participation only seems to be gaining more momentum with each passing year. Stoked!!!

We have to keep the positive energy flowing and rally, and we have set the date for the GROM Molly event for Saturday August 23rd. As always, we’re going to be set up at The Wall at 10th Street. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. and the entry fees will be $20. In keeping with the true spirit of The Molly Surf Celebration, every grom will receive a trophy for participating in the event. For the kids that want to compete in the ESA contest that runs in conjunction with The Molly event, we will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for each division.

The beauty of “The Molly” is that all kids are invited to participate. Grommies can surf, ride their boogie boards, and moms and dads can even be in the water with their child and push them into waves. The focus of the event is to ensure that the kids have FUN, and the day is all about spending time on the beach with our kids and our friends. Saturday August 23rd will be a day that defines Surfing, Community, and Love.

Last year we experienced an unbelievable turnout, tons of kids showed up to participate in the event, and what blew us away were the amount of groms that arrived IN COSTUME. We encourage all of the kids to dress up. They don’t have to surf in their costumes, but we will be awarding a BEST COSTUME trophy for the top girl and boy.

As many of you know, The Molly Surf Celebration is a FUNraiser that benefits The Molly Fund. With the help from all of you, The Molly Fund has been able to make a positive impact and help so many families that have children battling cancer at Children’s Hospital – Boston. Below is an email that Meg and I recently received from Abbey, and Abbey and Joe are the folks that administer The Molly Fund at Dana Farber.

Joe Chabot and I remain so grateful for your ongoing support and commitment to Dana-Farber. Since October 1st, 2014, Joe and his team have been able to use $53,433 of your Molly Fund to assist 54 different families, which is incredible! I hope you take great pride in helping so many patients and their families at such a challenging time in their lives.”

In many regards, it seems like only yesterday that we lost Molly to cancer in 2009. But at the same time, it also feels like a lifetime ago. Molly’s legacy is The Molly Fund, and it’s a joy knowing that her spirit continues to thrive and allow us to remain focused on the most important things in life. In the spirit of Molly, we hope to see ya’ll on the beach on Saturday August 23rd. Cowabunga!!!

With love,

Buck, Meg, Kieran, and TJ
